5.0 out of 5 stars. Great Compendium of All Aspects of Shotokan

Reviewed in the United States on 25 October 2018

One of the best and most thorough guides to Shotokan by a high-ranking western author. Well worth buying even if you have all the 4 available versions of Karate Do Kyohan, and the other better-known volumes by Kanazawa, Enoeda, Nakayama, etc. The coverage of the various forms of Ippon, Sanbon, Gohan Kumite is only as well covered by Kanazawa’s book on Kumite. An excellent compendium for those up to Shodan that I wish I’d come across sooner in my training.

I Like the book and especially Part 4, the section on Budo and also the tips on how to improve your strength. Shame that the pages are in black in white.

A great and informative read, but of course it supplements, rather than takes the place of, having a good instructor and attending formal classes.
